Have you ever wondered how we know what we know?
Many of you may be asking, “What is Theory of Knowledge (TOK)?”
The IB aims to shape students into well-rounded future individuals, and for this reason, it has identified three core subjects that every student must complete to finish the program. Theory of Knowledge is part of that core. It lies at the intersection of philosophical thought, cognitive science, and the cultural pursuit of human understanding.
TOK not only asks what knowledge is but also how we acquire it, the nature of truth, and the justification of our beliefs. Through interactive installations, informative panels, and participatory activities, this exhibition offers a panoramic view of how different cultures and eras have addressed these eternal questions.
This journey began at the start of the year when we collided with a world we didn’t know. We navigated through approaches and concepts unique to the subject to find our way, step by step selecting objects, translating them into the TOK world, and producing various documents to reach the final product.
More than an exhibition, today you’ll find the culmination of each student’s individual effort. All the sleepless nights and long hours we spent so that we can stand here today in front of you. What you will experience is a fair, where you can listen to how students answer different questions about knowledge, using three objects each to support their arguments.
Answering our initial question, there are countless ways in which we can understand knowledge—how we acquire it, how it is transmitted, how it is organized or stored—these are all aspects considered in our exhibitions. And although there is no concrete answer to any of the questions you will see today, you are all invited to think beyond, question what you know, and push the limits of what you believe you understand.
